Popular ‘Carols’ return next weekend

The Chilton Civic Chorale, Central Alabama Performing Arts (CAPA) and the Chilton Pops will kick off the holiday season with Carols 2010 on Dec. 3 and 4 in the Helen E. Parrish Activity Center of Clanton First United Methodist Church.

This musical introduction to Christmas in Chilton County is a family-friendly music program that has become a tradition for many faithful fans.

This year’s program, as always, will include both sacred and secular Christmas music — some familiar and some new, some classical and some whimsical. Light refreshments will be served during intermission.

This will be the first time Carols has been performed in the renovated Parrish Activity Center, so audiences should know that more comfortable chairs have replaced the folding metal chairs, and a stage will raise the singers to a visible level.

Randi Penton will be directing both the vocal and instrumental musicians this year.

She has directed the Chilton Pops since that group was formed in 2002 and assumed the directorship of the Chorale in the spring.
“The Chorale and Pops have been rehearsing all through the fall to perform a high energy and dramatic show,” Penton said.

“I thoroughly enjoy conducting both groups, and I’m especially looking forward to those numbers that both the singers and instrumentalists perform together.”

Tickets for Carols are $10 each and are on sale at Forrest Veterinary Clinic and Peoples Southern Bank in Clanton or from any member of the Chilton Civic Chorale, CAPA or the Chilton Pops.
