A traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings will be served at Brandon’s Place on Nov. 25 from noon until 2 p.m. The meal is free and everyone is invited.

Ruby Varner and her daughter, Essie Coleman, are sponsoring the third annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner.

“We want to feed the people who don’t have someone to cook for them or who are alone on the holiday,” said Varner. “My daughter works in mental health, and the people in care homes usually get picked up in buses to come out and eat with us.”

Varner and Coleman are the primary preparers of the food, but donations are also made for the event.

Varner is hoping to have at least 150 people show up to the dinner this year, she said.

“Last year we had 100-130 people come out,” said Varner. “The word is out there, so I hope we have a good turnout.”

If anyone would like to volunteer, contact Ruby Varner at 217-2477 or Essie Coleman 287-8005.

“Last year we had 15-20 servers, and right now we have about 10,” said Varner. “Anyone can volunteer, just call or just show up. I would like to thank Mrs. Parker for providing us with the building for the dinner. ”

Brandon’s Place is located at 1204 Second Ave. N in Clanton.
