Beginning with the Master of Ceremonies Jerry Grooms, from American Legion Post 6, the 2010 Veterans’ Day Celebration will take place at the Chilton County Court House on Thursday, Nov. 11.

This year will be the first year the celebration will be held at the courthouse instead of the American Legion Post.

“With the crowd we have we didn’t have enough parking at the post,” said Grooms. “Last year, we almost had a lady get hit by a car. The courthouse has better parking and easier access. We’ve had a lot of people ask us to move to a new location.”

The guest speaker for the event is Wayne Bartlett who is a retired Senior Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force and a teacher at Clanton Middle School.

Catherine Rowe will sing the “National Anthem” and “God Bless America” will be sung by Margaret Kemp Collins.

“We normally have a pretty good crowd,” said Grooms. “Our post holds 250 people and it was pretty full last year with around 150 people in attendance.”

Four different Chilton County Veterans’ are sponsoring the event including: the American Legion Post 6, Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 3193, American Legion Post 343 and the Chilton County Chapter 33 Disabled American Veterans.

“We would like everyone to come out and participate, those that have come before us and after us,” said Grooms. “Everyone is invited.”

The event will begin at 11 a.m., and will be held in the third floor courtroom.
