Participants start the 1-mile walk Saturday.

The 2010 Chilton County Arthritis Walk kicked off Saturday morning, having raised more than $18,000. This figure doesn’t include any money turned in Saturday.

People chose to participate in a 1-mile or 3-mile walk to raise arthritis awareness. All proceeds go to the Arthritis Foundation’s Alabama Chapter for research and education.

Several people and teams were honored before the walk began.

Hatley Healthcare was honored for raising more money than any other team and for having the best team T-shirt. Hatley’s team raised $3,025.

Sharon Mathis was recognized for being the top individual fundraiser and Clanton Middle School’s Beta Club was honored for having the largest team.
