Some Chilton County students will soon be riding in new buses thanks to the Board of Education’s approval.
At the Chilton County Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, board members approved to bid out 18 new buses for the county.
Two years ago, the county added 20 buses and last year 12 new ones.
“We’re going to send out specifics for the types of buses we use and open it for bids,” said Superintendent Keith Moore.
In other business, beginning this spring, Jemison Middle School will field a seventh and eighth grade baseball team by request of its principal, Mark Knight.
Also approved, Jemison Middle School will be receiving financial assistance for several students needing help in math.
During the visitors’ section of the board meeting, Audrey Zeigler, a concerned parent, addressed the board members with a complaint against a Clanton Middle School employee requesting that further action be taken. Zeigler said the employee made a “racist vulgar remark” toward her one morning as she was dropping her child off for school and also threatened her. The case was investigated and action was taken, but it was not sufficient, according to Zeigler. The Board of Education and the superintendent will investigate and respond to the claim.
