The Clanton City Council approved an ordinance Monday that will change how the police department will be staffed.

Starting in November, police officers will start 12-hour shifts instead of 8-hour days.

Clanton Police Chief Brian Stilwell said the change will allow him to better utilize the police officers and resources he has.

Stilwell said the 12-hour schedule is common among police officers, firefighters, EMTs and other public safety workers.

In other business, the council approved Councilman Bobby Cook to represent the city on Clanton’s zoning board.
