Mary Jo Rasco

Mary Jo Rasco, 83, of Jemison died Thursday, Sept. 9.
She was born Monday, Jan. 17, 1927, in Clanton, daughter of the late Joseph Alexander Logan and the late Virginia “Jennie” Magnolia Littlejohn Logan.
She graduated in 1946 from Chilton County High School. She received a bachelor’s degree in Arts from Alabama College (University of Montevallo) and received a Master of Science degree in education from Auburn University. She began her career at Mt. Pleasant Elementary, where she taught for 10 years and then at Jemison Elementary for 20 years. She received teacher of the year in 1987 and retired that same year. After retirement, she was active at the Rasco Angus Farm. She was an active member of the Ruth Sunday School Class at First Baptist Jemison. She was an avid gardener and received her Master Gardner Designation Award.
Surviving are her two sons, Mark Alexander Rasco (wife Jeanne) of Talladega and James Shelton Rasco Jr. (wife, Rose Marie) of Hendersonville, NC; and four granddaughters, Alexandria Gates Rasco, Catherine Joseph Rasco, Cecilia Marie Rasco and Andrea Nicole Rasco.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Shelton Rasco Sr.; brother, Marion Logan; sister, Jessie Horton; sister, Mertis Logan; sister, Bertie Logan; sister, Mamie Collins; brother, Howard Logan; sister, Mazie Bavar; sister, Virgie Logan; and sister, Rubie Johnson.
Services were Saturday, Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. at Jemison First Baptist with the Rev. Chuck Bass and the Rev. Rex Kent officiating. Interment followed in Pleasant Grove Baptist No. 1 Cemetery.
