A pair of 16-year-old boys were arrested Monday and charged with burglary and criminal mischief in connection with a break-in at Clearview Grocery.

The store is located at 1601 Kincheon Road.

Clanton officers Robert Bland and David Kline responded to a silent alarm coming from the store on Aug. 2. When arriving, they found one of the boys coming out of the business.

After a short foot chase, the boy coming out of the store was arrested. During the investigation, police discovered another boy was involved; he was later found at his home.

Juvenile officers were contacted due to the suspects’ age. One of the suspects was already on probation, and he was taken to the Shelby County Youth Detention Center. The other juvenile was released to his parents, pending court proceedings.

Names were not released due to the boys juvenile status.

“Thanks to the business owner who has a great security system and for the quick response of the police officers who were able to catch the suspects in the act,” said Clanton Police Chief Brian Stilwell. “We have been plagued with a lot of burglaries this summer but our officers and detectives have done a good job in solving many of these cases.”
