It’s still summer, but the Maplesville football team looks like it’s already in midseason form.

The Red Devils went 5-0 and the won the Class 1A-4A division of a passing camp at the University of Alabama on June 19.

“We were pleased with the way we played,” coach Brent Hubbert said. “The guys were excited. Any time you can do something like this, it helps you get ready for the season.”

Maplesville lost in the championship game last season.

On Saturday, Maplesville defeated Amanda Elzy (Greenwood, Miss.) High School, 44-25; Winston County, 30-20; Madison Academy, 18-6; Flint Hill, 34-0; and Brooks, 26-15.

There were a total of 14 teams in the 1A-4A division.

Maplesville’s B-team went 2-2 in its games.

Maplesville will travel to Oxford on Thursday for more passing camp games and will also compete in the Central Alabama Football Camp, which is hosted by Chilton County High School, beginning at 9 a.m. on June 29.
