A man being held in the Chilton County Jail has been charged with two counts of murder in New Jersey.
Kory Shamar McClary, 25, was arrested in Chilton County on Dec. 1, 2008, for first-degree receiving stolen property, first-degree possession of marijuana and hindering prosecution.
McClary was arrested after a search of his residence turned up drugs and stolen property, including guns and other items.
“He became a suspect in our cases, and during the course of the investigation, we found out he may be involved with the crimes in New Jersey,” Sheriff Kevin Davis said.
“We have no idea how he ended up here.”
McClary was charged last week by Atlantic County, N.J., Prosecutor Ted Housel with two counts of murder and weapons offenses related to a drive-by shooting in June 2008.
McClary is accused of shooting Michael Nelson, 16, of Atlantic City, and Phillip Fano, 19, of Hammonton, N.J., in Atlantic City. Both victims died.
Davis said Atlantic County investigators flew down once to interrogate McClary and then again last week to make their charges official.
Davis said McClary would eventually be extradited, but no date has been set.
“It’s up to when our system gets through with him,” Davis said.
