Powder puff girls take the track at CAMS

Published 1:44 pm Tuesday, May 11, 2010

The Mother’s Day special at Central Alabama Motor Speedway brought out all the ladies to not only watch but participate in the first Powder Puff event.

This event was a winner-takes-all of the money and trophy. A field of eight cars driven by non-experienced lady drivers started from a dead stop in front of the flag stand for the eight-lap event.

When a special checkered flag came out, Vanessa Barrett, No. 8 of Jemison, took home the win.

The racing program was dedicated to Cody Dean and his family. At the beginning of the evening, more than 50 race cars—along with his father, Jimmy Dean—were on the track as a special tribute to Cody Dean.

Track officials stood alongside of the track as the ceremony of cars passed the flag stand and made their special memory laps.

Action will return to Central Alabama Motor Speedway on May 15 with all regular racing divisions. Gates open at 5 p.m.
