May 6: Members of the Chilton County school system will host a Special Olympics event at Clanton City Park. The student governments at Chilton County High School, Jemison High School and Isabella High School along with members of the Chilton County Board of Education will sponsor the event, which begins with opening ceremonies at 9:30 a.m., followed by the games. May 6: A National Day of Prayer service will be held in the town of Thorsby at 9 a.m. at Helen Jenkins Chapel. Coffee and donuts will be served.

May 8: The Chilton Cemetery Association will have a workday at Williams Goodgame Cemetery, the burial site of the first sheriff of Chilton County. Volunteers will clear the road frontage of small trees, as well as the low-growing foliage that is blocking the view of the cemetery from the road. Volunteers are needed to bring chainsaws, Weed Eaters, rakes and etc. A free lunch will be provided. For directions or more information, call Kat Reece at 294-2197.

May 11: Chilton County Retired Educators will meet at Clara’s Country Café at 11:30 a.m. The speaker will be Ann Dalton. All who attend should bring at least one canned good.

May 16: Providence Baptist Church No. 1 will celebrate homecoming at 10:30 a.m. with guest pastor the Rev. Sid Sample and old time singing with songs for all. Music will be directed by Mike Corley. Lunch will follow at noon.

May 22: The Calera Elks will sponsor a car, truck and motorcycle show Saturday, May 22 at 355 Pilgreen Drive. Admission is free. There will be music, food, 50/50 raffles, door prizes and more. Pre-registration is $15 for the first entry by May 7 and $20 on the day of the show. Registration will take place from 8 a.m. until noon, followed by awards at 2 p.m. Call (205) 668-0545.

May 26: A Social Security representative will be on hand at the Chilton County DHR from 9:30-11:30 a.m. You may change your address, direct deposit or telephone number; get proof of your benefit amount; get a Social Security card application; replace your Medicare card; apply for retirement, spouse or disability benefits; or other business. Event postponed: Due to difficulties at Jemison Elementary School, the Chilton Pops will reschedule Moonlight Serenade at another location and on another date later in the year. This was originally scheduled for May 15. Tickets may be returned to the point of purchase for a full refund.

Free GED classes: The Wallace Community College-Selma Adult Education Program is hosting free GED classes at Helen Jenkins Chapel in Thorsby 5-8 p.m.  For more information, call (334) 876-9369.

Gift shop: The Chilton Medical Center Auxiliary gift shop is a non-profit store inside Chilton Medical Center that features a variety of gifts. They have teddy bears, toys, purses, jewelry and even Happy Home flavoring. All proceeds go toward scholarships and various charities.

Field trip for seniors: Senior Connection and Adventure tours presents “Diana, A Celebration” in Atlanta. Nine galleries will hold more than 150 objects owned by and related to Princess Diana, including the royal wedding gown, 28 designer dresses and more.
