Two county athletes won state championships at track and field meets last week.

Isabella’s Austin Haigler won the school’s first state title in any sport with a discus throw of 137 feet, six inches.

Thorsby’s Sade’ Archie won her school’s first two track state championship last season—and won two more this season.

Archie, a sophomore, won the 100-meter dash on May 1 at Birmingham-Southern College with a time of 12.4 seconds. She won the 200-meter dash with a 26.2-second time.

“With her doing it back-to-back, it just shows that she is legit,” coach Ginger Williams said. “We’re very proud of her.”

Archie’s times are both within one second of state records, goals that Archie will try to reach in her remaining two years.

Maplesville’s Cameron Morrow medaled in three events—and just missed the top three in a fourth event.

Morrow finished second in the state in both the 300-meter and the 110-meter hurdles, and was third in the 100-meter dash. He was fourth in the long jump.

“He’s put in the work and gotten better as the year has gone along,” coach Brent Hubbert said. “He’s got two more years; he’s looking for some gold medals.

Haigler’s teammate, Blake Lawley, finished third in the discus.
