Youngsters and the young at heart are invited to a Community Block Party on Saturday, hosted by the Collins Chapel Baptist Church.

“This is a new event for us,” said Lynn Goins, who is director of the Women’s Missionary Union at Collins Chapel Baptist. “This is an outreach mission. We are hoping to attract people, including young people and families, into our church family.”

About 30 members of the church have been working hard to plan the event, she said.

“We’re a little church with a big heart,” Goins said.

The event, which begins at 10 a.m. and continues to 2 p.m. at the Collins Chapel Fire Station and Community Park, will offer food, music and lots of games and fellowship.

Live music will be provided by “Rise and Fall,” a contemporary Christian music group from McCalla.

Hot dogs with all the “fixin’s,” chips and drinks, as well as snow cones and cotton candy will be served, as well as a cupcake and cookie walk.

“All the food and everything else is free,” Goins said.

Games and activities for all ages are planned, including a duck pond, treasure chest dig and a lollipop tree for small children.

Folks a little older may participate in a bean bag toss, tic tac toe toss, baseball and football throw, hole-in-one golf game and a Scooby Doo Moon Walk, as well as a dunk tank.

“We just want people in the community to come out and enjoy the food, games and fellowship,” Goins said.
