It’s been a fun few days for the Chilton County softball team.
The Tigers (18-15) won the Jemison Invitational Tournament on April 17 and then, on Monday, CCHS earned the right to host its area tournament with an 8-7, 12-inning decision over Demopolis.
“It was a great game, one of those where I’m still sick at my stomach,” coach Krisi Parrish said shortly after the game ended.
The game was tied at 7 at the end of regulation, and Mary Katherine Graham reached base on an error with two outs in the top of the 12th inning.
Rachel Johnston then hit safely before another error, on a ball hit by April Lewis, allowed Graham to score what would turn out to be the winning run.
CCHS’s Brianna Cleckler, who pitched all 12 innings, made the run stand up.
On April 17, CCHS defeated Montevallo (6-1), host Jemison (8-5) and Verbena (16-0).
Cleckler struck out nine batters in the first game, and Lewis went 4-for-4.
Johnston went 3-for-4 in the second game as Lindsey Parrish started and went three innings and Cleckler pitched four innings in relief.
Parrish was the winning pitcher in the Verbena game, allowing only one hit and one walk in five innings, and also went 4-for-4 at the plate.
Seventh grader Kelsey Headley started in right field and went 3-for-3 with a triple.
