Two wrecks on opposite ends of Clanton temporarily closed roads during the noon hour Thursday.
The first wreck happened at the intersection of Hinkle Road and Samaria Road. Two trucks, a red Ford 1-150 and a blue Chevy Avalanche, collided at approximately 11:58.
The driver and sole occupant of the Ford was transported by ambulance to Interstate 65, Exit 212, and then airlifted by Life Saver helicopter to UAB. Clanton Fire Chief David Driver described the woman’s injuries as critical.
Two adults and an infant were traveling in the Chevy. One woman from the Avalanche was transported via ambulance to Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster.
Other passengers were driven in personal vehicles to Shelby Baptist with minor injuries, Driver said.
Hinkle Road was shut down completely while crews worked the scene of the accident.
A two-car wreck also shut down all four lanes of Lay Dam Road near Chilton Medical Center while crews were still working the first accident.
The second accident resulted in patients being transported to Chilton Medical Center with minor injuries.
