Isabella rested for playoffs

Isabella baseball coach Clay Shearer has worked his team hard this season.

So, this week, with the playoffs in sight, the Mustangs have been…taking it easy?

“We’re just trying to have a little fun this week,” Shearer said. “We didn’t play as many games this week, and we just haven’t spent as much time on stuff. Instead of spending 45 minutes on bunt coverage, we’ll just spend a few minutes.”

The team was scheduled to spend Thursday evening eating lasagna and watching the movie “300.”

The Mustangs (18-18) haven’t given up on the season. Shearer said he simply wanted to be able to field a refreshed and relaxed team when Reeltown (17-11) visits for a best-of-three series beginning at 2 p.m. Friday.

Game 3, if necessary, would be played at noon Saturday.

“This is just special for the playoffs,” Shearer said about dinner-and-a movie night. “We’ll keep it up each week—if we win.”
