Herman Lee Varden, 72, of Lineville died Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at Clay County Hospital in Ashland.

He was born Thursday, Dec. 2, 1937, in Maplesville, son of the late Ollie Buck Varden and the late Mary Gandy Varden.

He was a press operator.

Surviving are his wife, Daphine Varden of Lineville; two sons, Christopher Lee (Birgit) Varden of Jemison and Jeffery Todd Varden of Lineville; daughter, Kellie V. (Dr. Steve) Shapiro of New Fairfield, Conn.; four grandchildren, Chris Varden, Kaylee Varden, Samantha and Max Shapiro; brother, Clyde (Minnieloyce) Varden of Thorsby; and four nieces.

Friends will be received from 1-2 p.m., Friday, April 16 at Mars Hill Baptist Church. Services will be held Friday, April 16 at 2 p.m. at Mars Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny Scott officiating. Interment will follow in Mars Hill Baptist Cemetery in Jemison.
