Raiford Boone

Raiford Oliver Boone, 80, of Clanton passed away March 30, 2010, after an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 3 at 11 a.m. at West End Baptist Church in Clanton. Presiding clergy are the Rev. Tony Smitherman and the Rev. Charles Christmas. Burial will follow in Martin Memorial Cemetery in Clanton with Memory Chapel Funeral Home directing. Taps to be played by Harold Blankenship.

He is survived by Virgil Boone (wife) of Clanton; Dr. Oliver Boone (son) of Columbus, Ga.; Dr. Thomas Childers, BG USAR Ret. (son) of Alpharetta, Ga.; Robin Boone (daughter-in-law), Lauren Boone (granddaughter) and Matthew Boone (grandson), all of Columbus, Ga.; Clyde Boone (brother) and Jane Boone (sister-in-law), both of Montgomery.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Lois Mingledorff and Lee Luttrell; and parents, Mr. and Mrs. O.C. Boone, all of Montgomery.

Raiford Boone was a Korean War Veteran and longtime employee of the United States Postal Service. Upon his retirement of the Postal Service, Mr. Boone was the owner and operator of Ray’s Shoe Shop in Clanton. He served as president of the Alabama Gospel Singing Convention in 1976. He was a member of West End Baptist Church of Clanton.

Pallbearers are nephews, John Roper Jr., Tim Baker, Marty Carter, George Mingledorff, Clifton Mingledorff and William Carter. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Sunday School class at West End Baptist Church.
