The Billingsley Bears gave up a doubleheader to the Thorsby Rebels in two very different games Tuesday.
Game one was a 16-0 blowout, but the Bears came out of hibernation in game two and held the Rebels to a score of 6-3.
Highlights from game one included a triple from Tanner Bush in the first inning, four total RBI from Matt Morgan and two RBI from Wesley Smitherman.
Pitcher Shane Beam took the win, throwing three strikeouts in two innings. Bush and Evan Bryan each threw a pair of strikeouts.
Game one lasted just five innings due to the number of runs.
“I thought we pitched well, hit well and played good defense,” Thorsby coach Ab Argent said after the game. “I thought we played two of the more complete games that we’ve played.”
Brantley Bice drove in Thorsby’s first run in the first inning of game two. Billingsley’s Donnie Smith answered with a double and two RBI, bringing Forrest Ousley and Preston Wallace to the plate.
Thorsby reclaimed its lead with two more runs in the third, but Ousley tied it up for the Bears on a walk with the bases loaded.
In the fifth, Thorsby’s Blake Elkins hit a double to score two more runs. Joseph Prather scored the final run in the sixth.
Billingsley coach Todd Reece was proud that his team didn’t hang their heads after a tough loss.
“I was pleased with the way we played in the second game after we played poorly in the first game,” he said.
The 14-2 Rebels will face Leeds at home Thursday, and the 4-10 Bears will travel to Autaugaville next Thursday, March 25.
