Hunter Bennett announced his intention to play next season for Faulkner University, which would make him the first player from the Chilton County High School soccer program to play collegiately.

“He knew what he wanted, and he went for it,” Faulkner coach Brett Mitchell said about what impressed him about Bennett. “We’re looking for good kids.”

Bennett made the announcement in the CCHS library with family, friends and several school faculty members present in support.

Mitchell said Bennett was persistent in his pursuit of an opportunity to play in college. Bennett attended a camp at Faulkner and went through two tryouts.

Bennett, a defensive player, has played all four years of his high school career for the Tigers and would likely continue at that position at Faulkner.

Asked what he liked about the school, Bennett said the “family atmosphere.”

“When I got down there, everybody was just really friendly,” Bennett said.
