Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa (6-3) came to Jack Hayes Field on Tuesday and swept a doubleheader from Chilton County, 9-7 and 6-4.

The losses were despite the efforts of Chilton’s freshman catcher, Craig Headley, who went a combined 6-for-7 in the two games. His only out was a sharp line drive to center field, coach Josey Shannon said.

“That’s the best hitting performance I’ve ever seen by a ninth grader,” Shannon said.

Cameron Cummings was effective on the mound for four innings for the Tigers (1-6) in Game 1, holding the visitors to one earned run.

Tanner Powell was a combined 3-for-7 in the two games.
