Letter: Don’t believe candidate won’t raise taxes

Dear Editor,
If I remember correctly gubernatorial candidate Bradley Byrne, as a state senator, was a major supporter of Amendment 1.
(“Byrne: Economy, education & ethics top focus,” Jan. 15)
If anyone has forgotten, that was the huge tax increase that Gov. Bob Riley tried to get approved shortly after he was elected.
Naturally, we, the citizens, voted that tax down.
It was only fitting that with such strong support from Sen. Bradley Byrne on the tax increase that Gov. Bob Riley reward him with the appointment as chancellor of the state’s two-year college system.
How can Bradley Byrne possibly say “No new taxes” and mean it?
