Cedar Grove Methodist-Protestant Church
We have several that desperately need our prayers, including Ellen Ruth, Jim Scott, Kenneth Robinson, Dollie Price (Woodrow), Earl Caton, Robert and Minnie Childress, our military, the leaders of our country, our church, and the many unspoken requests. God knows all about them.
Happy birthday to Emily Jones and Norma Muir. We wish for them many more.
Bro. Jeff ‘s sermon came from 1 Peter 2:1-2, 1 Corinthians 3:1-3 and Hebrews 5:11-14.
Bro. Heath preached a good sermon Sunday evening from Genesis 4:1-8.
Praise the Lord the sound system is in. We are almost ready to put the carpet down. It won’t be long now.
We are so thankful for all the donations. If anyone is interested in doing so, send a donation to Cedar Grove Church, P.O. Box 973, Thorsby, AL 35171. The cost is $1,030 (tax deductible) per pew. For more information, call 646-2390.

What does “baptism” mean to you? Forgiveness of sins, perhaps?  In Luke we read that Jesus was baptized and we know that He was sinless, so that can’t be the explanation. Staying in Luke we find the answer.  When the heavens opened up and the voice of God was heard to exclaim, “This is my Son, in whom I am well pleased,” we are given the reason for baptism.  The thief on the cross had his sins forgiven without baptism, so the act isn’t required.  Baptism doesn’t ensure us a clear and untroubled road to heaven. Baptism is an outward symbol that tells the world we have come into the family of God, through Christ Jesus.  When you have made that commitment, turn to your Bible for continued support that will enable you to walk in the light of Jesus.

Dr. Mac Stinson took his text from Luke 3:15-22. This scripture is Luke’s account of the baptism of Jesus and records the first instance when a dove came down from heaven and a voice from heaven said, “Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.” These words amount to God giving his Son a pat on the back and saying “I am proud of you,” or perhaps saying, “I love you.”
Prayer is requested for Dr. Mac Stinson III, Marie Williams, Kent Conway’s family, Mable Mitchell, Dwight Sammons, Horace Carden, Melvin Crowe, Nancy Rogers and the family of O.J. Johnson.
Jan. 24 missionary Andy Bowen will be our guest along with his wife and two children. They serve in Paraguay.
