Deadline set for Relay fundraiser

Signs point to another good year for Chilton County Relay for Life. This year, volunteers hope to put up the biggest sign yet — a billboard displaying the names of loved ones affected by cancer.
The annual fundraiser, sponsored by the Chilton County Board of Education, yields $100 for every name of a cancer victim or survivor. Proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.
“It’s a very visible way for someone to recognize themselves or a loved one and their fight with cancer,” said Ann Glasscock, Chilton County Relay for Life chairperson for 2010.
The deadline to submit names is Friday, Feb. 26. The minimum donation for each name is $100. The billboard will be located in a prominent place somewhere in Clanton.
Allen Deason of A&M Outdoor Advertising donates the billboard and the wrap material each year.
“He’s very generous to donate the billboard every year,” Glasscock said.
The board of education’s Relay for Life team has set a goal of 30 names, or $3,000, for the fundraiser.
Checks may be taken to the board of education central office on Lay Dam Road or to Messer’s on Second Avenue North.
