Maplesville’s boys basketball team on Tuesday used a stellar defensive effort to defeat Isabella, 50-22, and advance to the semifinal round of the Chilton County Basketball Tournament.
The No. 3 seed Red Devils (4-7) face No. 2 seed Jemison at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Maplesville set the tone early, holding the winless Mustangs to only 2 points in the first quarter while scoring 14 of their own.
Maplesville led 22-10 at halftime and 35-13 after three periods of play.
The Devils used their height to dominate the boards and their length to disrupt Isabella’s passing and dribbling.
Anthony Johnson led all scorers with 18 points. Johnson also recorded nine rebounds and five steals.
Brian Bailey contributed 10 points, five rebounds, five steals and two assists.
Blake Lawley came off the bench to lead Isabella with nine points, seven of which came in the fourth quarter.
