Clanton police officers arrested two people on drug charges Tuesday evening at the Scottish Inns Motel.
Melissa D. Bingham, 32, and Michael L. Bingham, 42, both of Clanton were charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, drug trafficking, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of precursor chemicals.
Bond had not been set as of Wednesday afternoon.
Around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, Clanton officers received information about a possible meth lab at the motel. When they arrived at the scene, officers found controlled substances.
Narcotics investigators were called to the scene and discovered chemicals and fuel to make meth, 96 psuedeophedrine tablets, what appears to be marijuana and 60 grams of what appears to be methamphetamine, according to Clanton Police Chief Brian Stilwell.
“We appreciate all the help we get from the public,” said Stilwell. “This citizen that gave us this information got a serious meth lab off the streets.”
Stilwell said people are starting to rent hotel rooms across the country and make meth in their cars in order to try to escape the law.
“Scottish Inns had no idea this was going on, and are a victim in this too,” Stilwell said.
