Charles Owens turns 90 years young

Charles H. Owens was born Nov. 28, 1919, to George and Lake Owens. He had five siblings: Shelton, Ray, James, Delene and Jet.

He married Alta Dickinson Sept. 15, 1941, in Clanton. Afterward, they moved to Prattville. In 1945, they had a daughter, Linda. In 1955, a daughter, Joy. In 1959, a son, Michael (stillborn).

Charles worked for Central Alabama Electric Co-op (REA) in Prattville for approximately 16 years. He and his family moved back to Clanton in 1966 where he went to work for the Alabama Department of Corrections as a correctional officer at Drapper Prison where he retired in 1985.

Charles celebrated his 90th birthday with a surprise birthday party on Nov. 28, 2009. In attendance were daughters Linda James of Columbus, Ga., grandchildren Misti (Keith) Kelley of Clanton, Jeff James of Prattville, Tammy (Eddie) Stoddart of Prattville, Freida (Neal) Mixon of Millbrook, and sister Delene Puckett of Clanton. Great grandchildren, a host of nephews and many good friends also attended.
