Virginia Benton Helms
Virginia Benton Helms, 83, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009. Virginia was born in Barbour County, Alabama on July 31, 1926.
Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 20 from 6-8 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1405 Chapel Road, Wetumpka. Funeral services will be held the next day, Saturday, Nov. 21 at 10 a.m. at the same location. A graveside service will follow at Creel Cemetery in Lodi at 3 p.m.
Virginia was not only a loving mother to her own children, but to anyone that set foot into her house; her doors were always open to anyone who needed a hot meal or a helping hand.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, David Bennett Helms Sr.; and her seven children, David B. Helms Jr. (Jan) of Midland City, Emory C. Helms of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Mellanie H. Bailey (Kenneth) of Wetumpka, W. Lee Helms (Renee) of Clanton, Jonathan “Jody” Helms (Julie) of Blountville, Tenn., Robin W.C. Helms (Marlena) of Albertville and Callie H. Cook (Eric) of Wetumpka. Virginia was lovingly known as “Nanny” to her 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
The pallbearers will be all of her grandsons, Justin A. Cook, Warren B. Helms, J. Brent Helms, Dr. Benjamin R. Helms, Dr. Jody Benton Helms, Travis Benton Helms, James W. Bailey, David J. Bailey and Kevin “Bo” D. Bailey.
