Durbin Market and 97.7 The Peach are joining forces later in the month to raise money and awareness in the fight against breast cancer.
The market will sell $15 sandwich plates on Tuesday, Oct. 27 from 6-8 p.m.
Half of that amount will go to the American Cancer Society. The plate will include a sandwich, fruit, potato salad and a drink.
Lori Martin Peoples, a breast cancer survivor, will speak about her experience. Other survivors and fighters will be there too.
Ellis Stewart from The Peach is organizing the fundraiser.
He said he wanted do something after two women in his church, Metropolitan Church of God in Birmingham, were diagnosed with the disease.
“Since I started this, it amazes me how many people you find that someone in their family has it or someone they know has it,” said Stewart.
Tickets are available at Durbin’s Market.
An estimated 192,370 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the United States during 2009.
