LaRue McGee Smith, age 77, of Clanton passed away Saturday Oct.10, 2009.
She was born Aug. 29, 1932 in Maplesville to James Clinton and Lois Collins McGee. She attended Mt. Pleasant School and graduated from Chilton County High School in 1950. She retired from Chilton-Clanton Public Library. She was a long-time member, Sunday School teacher and librarian at Mt.Pleasant Baptist Church.
A loving and caring mom, grandma and friend, she was known for her quiet spirit and wonderful cooking. She will be greatly missed by her family, extended family, friends and church family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John D. Smith; two brothers and one sister.
She is survived by her daughter, Cathy (Mike) Joiner; son, Mike (Renee) Smith; son Mark (Allegra) Smith; grandchildren, Christy Joiner, Taylor Smith, Amy Smith, Cameron Smith and Kip Willis; one sister, Nell Watley of Clanton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends were received from 5 p.m to 8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 12, 2009 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel.
Services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jack Drinkwater officiating.
Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Cemetery in Clanton.
