CCHS surprise JV tourney winners

After winning only two matches all year, Chilton County High’s junior varsity volleyball team exploded Thursday for three wins in as many matches to win the second county JV volleyball tournament.

The host Tigers defeated Isabella (12-25, 25-23, 15-9) and Jemison (25-21, 15-25, 15-11), two squads CCHS was a combined 0-4 against previously.

CCHS also defeated Thorsby, 25-18, 25-12.

The tournament’s Most Valuable Player was Brooke Lewis, who recorded 12 aces, three kills and two digs on the day.

Keona DeJarnett had six aces and two digs for CCHS, and Taylor Myers recorded five aces.

DeJarnett and Kacy Sanders were both all-tournament team selections for CCHS.

Jemison finished in second place via wins over Isabella (25-22, 18-25, 15-9) and Thorsby (25-13, 25-13).

Haley Amos and Morgan Posey were all-tournament selections for the Panthers.

Isabella, which hadn’t lost a match since the beginning of the 2008 season, finished third. The Mustangs beat Thorsby 25-12, 25-15.

Ashley Carlisle was an all-tournament selection, as was Thorsby’s Krysten Hendrix.

For Isabella, Carlisle had 14 aces and seven kills, Jordan Davenport had 10 kills and nine aces, Miranda Magness had eight aces and six kills, Heather Posey had 13 assists, Shelby Cleckler had 15 assists, and Nicole Smith had eight kills.
