An estimated 3,500 people attended the Chilton County Fair on Friday night — an all-time record for a single night’s attendance according to Clanton Kiwanis Club president Dr. Maurice Lyn.
Saturday night drew around 2,800 people on the final evening of what turned out to be one of the best fundraising weeks in the fair’s history.
Lyn attributed a large part of the success to clear weather.
“We were glad the rain from the previous week held off, and now it’s raining again,” Lyn said. “So we caught the weather just right.”
Volunteers working at the fair Friday night also said the crowd appeared to reach record size, at least during the time since the Clanton Kiwanis Club began sponsoring the annual event.
The Kiwanis took over the fair about five years ago and has since donated more than $100,000 to local charities.
The Chilton County Fair is held each fall at the fairgrounds on Airport Road. It is put on by Kissel Entertainment, a company based in Clanton.
