JHS names students, teachers of month

Jemison High School has begun a new student and teacher recognition program. Each month, the faculty will select a student of the month for each grade level to recognize them for outstanding performance. The students selected will have their photos taken and placed on the student of the month wall for everyone to see. This recognition is not just for our exceptional learners but for all students.
The criteria are to select students that have put forth the best effort during that month in the classroom—not necessarily the best grades. Our students of the month for September are as follows: freshman, Lauren Price; sophomore, Mandy Nemec; junior, Abigail Woods; senior, Jordan Wade; honorary, Ronnie Garrett. Congratulations to these students for their dedication and commitment to their education.
At Jemison High School, we are proud of the excellent faculty and staff that work with our students. We have implemented new ideas to show the teachers how much we appreciate their dedication and commitment to education. We are having a monthly luncheon for our staff. We are also recognizing our teachers by having a teacher of the month award.
The faculty votes on the outstanding teacher of the month, and the winners in September are Ellen Bird and Chrystie Mims. The monthly winners will qualify for our Teacher of the Year award that is Sponsored by Lee McDaniels of Balfour. Balfour will present our Teacher of the Year a class ring commemorating his or her selection.
We are excited that we have had such a great start to the school year. We encourage all of our parents to participate in our parent day on Tuesday, Oct. 13. Our teachers will be available to meet with parents between the hours of 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Please come out and visit with your student’s teachers.
We have begun our coupon book sale to continue our efforts to make improvements to our facilities. Please stop by the office or see any Jemison High School student and purchase an Enjoy the City coupon book. The cost is $20. It’s a great day to be a Jemison Panther!
