Fundraisers, donations ease shortage

As a fundraiser, Jemison Elementary School is selling coupon books.
These books have more than $1,500 in valuable offers. The cost of the book is only $20, and if you use the book once or twice, it pays for itself.
The profit from this sale will help purchase items needed for the school.
We appreciate the community assisting us in our efforts by purchasing these books.
This week, Jemison Elementary School K-2 students have been taking the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills test. The test is given three times each year.
This week’s test is an assessment of our students’ knowledge and guides the teacher in providing assistance to enhance his or her reading skills.
We believe that DIBELS is a valuable tool in evaluating students’ strengths and weaknesses.
Jemison Elementary School is fortunate to have wonderful parent volunteers.
They help assist with morning car riders, copy materials for teachers, and read with students.
If anyone wants to volunteer, I invite him or her to speak to their child’s teacher or to speak to me.
Jemison Elementary School has several first-year teachers. These teachers arrived on campus with no room supply money.
Our school always provides these new teachers with a small amount of money to help them prepare their rooms for the first day of school.
However, they need additional money and supplies to adequately prepare their students for the remainder of the year.
In Jemison, we are fortunate to have organizations in our community that see the need for school assistance.
Providence Baptist Church No. 1, located in Jemison, graciously donated $500 to our school. We are so thankful for this gift.
We also are thankful to have a Regions Bank in our community. This year, they asked for school donations from their customers.
After collecting pencils, notebooks, bookbags, Kleenex, etc., Regions Bank donated these items and some cash to our school.
Many of our students’ parents have fallen on hard times, and these donations will benefit these students, not only with material items but with a sense of security that the community cares for them.
