Virginia Elsie Hand, 82, of Clanton died Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009 at her residence.

She was born Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1926 in Sylacauga, daughter of the late George Dewey Smith and the late Winnie R. Hay.

She was a homemaker.

Surviving are her husband, Norman Hand of Clanton; daughter, Sandra (The Rev. Charles) Beard of Clanton; two sons, Michael (Connie) Hand of Cape Coral, Fla., Wendell (Janet) Hand of Verbena; 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jack Meek of Clanton.

She was preceded in death by son, Tony Hand.

Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 11 at West End Baptist Church. Services will be Wednesday, Aug. 12, at 11 a.m. at West End Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony Smitherman and the Rev. Charles Brooks officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Creek Cemetery. Martin Funeral Home directing.
