Sometimes no news is good news, particularly for police officers.
Chilton County’s police departments said the Fourth of July weekend was “rather uneventful.”
The holiday, which is notorious for an increase in traffic accidents, saw only one wreck with injuries the entire weekend.
“Compared to what we’ve done in the past, it was relatively quiet,” said Brian Stilwell, Clanton police chief.
The only accident with injuries happened Friday, July 3. Other than eight DUI arrests, Stilwell said people “seemed to be on the best behavior.”
Jemison police worked one accident and had two DUI arrests, according to Chief Shane Fulmer.
Things were even quieter in Maplesville, where they were no accidents or DUIs, and Thorsby, which had just one DUI.
“I was surprised,” said Rodney Barnett, Thorsby police chief. “I think people were staying home and doing whatever they were doing off the roads.”
