Kalyn Shannon knew that she would be handing the Junior Miss Peach Queen title off to someone new Tuesday night, but she didn’t expect it would be someone who was royalty herself.
Winning the 2009 Junior Miss Peach Queen title was Jill Vinzant, a former Little Miss Peach Queen from 2002.
“I kind of know what to expect over the next year,” Vinzant said after being crowned. “I am still shocked. Really shocked.”
But, for Vinzant’s mother, Martie, it was relief knowing how much work went into the pageant.
“I am so excited. This is her first year in the Junior Miss Peach category,” Martie said, adding that her daughter was on a mission trip last year preventing her from competing for the title.
Rounding out the top 10 were Krista Henderson, Kimberly McGhar, Taylor Brooke Henderson, Kelcie Beam, Olivia Ricks, Makenzie Ray, Katelyn Stough, Kandice Cleckler and Shana Driver.
Driver also earned the Miss Congeniality award while Cleckler earned the award for casual wear winner.
The top five along with queen Vinzant were: Cleckler (first runner-up), Stough (second runner-up), Ray (third runner-up) and McGhar (fourth runner-up).
The final peach pageant of the 2009 Peach Festival will be the Miss Peach Pageant scheduled for Thursday, June 25 at 6:30 p.m. The pageant will be held at the Chilton County Auditorium, and admission is $5.
