The Central Alabama all-star team lost its two Lions Club East-West baseball tournament games Friday and Saturday, but it wasn’t because of the local players on the roster.

Chilton County High’s T.J. Henley, Tanner Powell and Justin Veazey and Jemison’s Kris Lowrey represented the area in the games at Samford University, and all four played well despite their team dropping games to the Birmingham Metro team, 9-0 on Friday, and the South Alabama team, 5-2 in a consolation game Saturday.

Metro defeated North in the championship game.

Lowrey, a senior, was the only Central pitcher to take the mound and not allow a run. Lowrey pitched two innings against South, giving up two hits and striking out three.

Henley, a junior, pitched against Metro and struck out four in three innings.

Central could muster only seven hits in 16 innings, but three of those hits were off the bats of CCHS players. Powell, a junior, and Veazey, a senior, had hits against Metro, and Powell added another hit, against South.
