A guaranteed $1,500 and the chance to win a bass boat will be the prizes for the winner of this year’s Peach Classic fishing tournament, hosted by the Rotary Club of Chilton County at Lake Mitchell.

The tournament will be held beginning at safe light on June 20, and a registration session will be held at the Alabama Power Conference Center at 6:30 p.m. on June 16.

There will be food and door prizes at the registration session, and the boat to be drawn for by the tournament winner will be on display.

“Make it bigger and better—that’s the main thing every year,” said Carl Mims with the Rotary Club.

Those that wish to pre-register should call Mims at 646-2641.

The entry fee is $75 per boat, and those that want to participate in the big fish competition will owe an extra $10. There will be a 125-boat limit. 68 boats registered last year.

“We expect about 100,” Mims said. “We have 17 signed up [as of May 21]. By this time, we usually have less than 10.”

The tournament winner will draw for the Blazer bass boat from Gene’s Marine Montgomery LLC, with a one-in-10 chance of winning.

The second-place boat will receive $750, the third-place boat gets $500 and the third-place boat $250.

All money raised will benefit the Rotary Club’s charities. The club raised about $2,500 last year after expenses were deducted.

“That’s the best we’ve ever done, and we hope to do better than that this year,” Mims said.
