Accomplishment comes with responsibility

The 19th century German author Johann Wolfgang von Goethe once said, “knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do.”
This is a fitting quote for the local high school seniors set to graduate this year. What comes with this accomplishment is a newfound set of responsibilities. In many ways, regardless of whether you have turned 18, you are now adults in the eyes of many.
And, that level of responsibility starts with how you celebrate graduation. For a tragic few in this country, they will see graduation as an excuse to throw caution to the wind, party, drink, drive and then lose their life. In even more tragic cases, those drinking and driving will take the life of someone else– a senseless victim of a senseless crime.
With accomplishment comes responsibility.
In the coming days, you will be given tremendous responsibility and freedom. How you act with such responsibility and freedom will be the true measure of just how adult you are.
Enjoy your graduation, but make sure you’re around to enjoy the next wonderful steps in your life.
