6 local players advance to next East-West round

Six local players were chosen Saturday to advance to the next round of the annual East-West baseball tournament.

The West, made up primarily of players from Calera, Chilton County, Jemison, Marbury and Thorsby high schools, defeated the East, made up primarily of players from Billingsley, Dallas County, Maplesville and Prattville, 11-3 on Saturday.

Players chosen for the next round, which will be held at 1 p.m. May 23 at Jack Hayes Field in Clanton, were: Wes Lawrence from Billingsley; Trent Posey from Calera; T.J. Henley, Tanner Powell and Justin Veazey from CCHS; Kris Lowrey from Jemison; Dalton James from Prattville; and Evan Bryan from Thorsby.

In the first round game, West pitchers Lowrey and Brantley Bice, from Thorsby, held the East squad scoreless over the first five innings of the eight-inning game.

Bryan was 4-for-4 with a walk at the plate, and Powell was 4-for-5 with a walk. Bice and Lowrey each had two hits and a double.
