The Clanton Advertiser’s 2008-09 All-Area Basketball Team features an abundance of young talent.

The first team is:

Sharonda Cooper, Fr., G, Thorsby

Marquiska Deramus, Fr., C, Verbena

Tylita Harrell, Sr., G, Chilton Co.

Charlotte McCary, Jr., F, Billingsley

Amber Wyatt, So., C, Isabella

The first team features only one senior, Chilton County’s Tylita Harrell, and one junior, Billingsley’s Charlotte McCary. The other three players are sophomores or younger.

Thorsby freshman guard Sharonda Cooper was the group’s leading scorer, averaging 15 points per game. Verbena freshman forward/center Marquiska Deramus was second with 14 points per game.

Isabella sophomore center Amber Wyatt, who was also the Advertiser’s Player of the Year, led all honorees with 13 rebounds and four blocks per game.
