An estimated 310 Alabama Power customers remain without power thanks to a furry intruder into the Maplesville distribution substation.
According to Alabama Power officials, a squirrel entered the substation and caused three high-side fuses to blow at 6:46 a.m. The loss of power caused well over the current 310 customers to lose power, but the company was able to restore an estimated 25 percent of those customers by rerouting power through the Plantersville substation.
The loss of the fuses caused the entire substation to go down.
Thanks to a generator, the Maplesville Town Hall has power, but the rest of the town, including Maplesville School is without power.
Officials with the Chilton County Board of Education reported school in Maplesville would continue as normal with classes going on and sandwiches being served at lunch. Power was also out most of the morning at Isabella School, but had reportedly been restored after 9 a.m.
