Several local athletes qualify for state

Six local athletes on Friday punched their tickets to state track and field meets, and many more will have the chance to do so Saturday.
Isabella junior Blake Lawley had the best shot put, 41’10”, in the Class 2A, Section 1 tournament at Smiths-Station High School.
The top six performers in each event at sectionals qualify for state.
Thorsby senior Mary Gasson had the third-best javelin throw at the Class 2A, Section 2 meet at Tuscaloosa-Central High School, and teammate Bianca Sanchez, and eighth grader, also qualified in the event.
Gasson also qualified in the 400-meter dash. Gasson on Saturday will look to qualify in four events for the fourth consecutive season.
Dillan Simmons also qualfied in the 400-meter dash for Thorsby, Marcus Bray was second in the long jump and Sade Archie qualified in the 200-meter dash.
Finals for most events will be held Saturday.
