Ending the cycle of violence

Our police officers and sheriff’s deputies respond to hundreds of domestic violence related calls each year.
Unfortunately, many people who grow up in violent homes often continue the chain of violence when they become adults because it is all they know. In many cases, people are unaware of the resources that could help them.
Several local people want to change that. Members of Glad Tidings Church of God worked with a Montgomery area women’s shelter last October to sponsor an event for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Support for that effort has snowballed into a domestic violence task force that seeks to provide education to local students and caregivers.
Thorsby Police Chief Ed Prady and Chilton County Sheriff Kevin Davis are two law enforcement officers who have shown support for this group. The more we can do to prevent domestic violence, the better off we will be.
