Commission should look at all angles

During the Chilton County Commission’s regular meeting Monday morning, commissioners will further decide the particulars of a proposed county business license.

The idea behind the license is to raise desperately needed operating funds for a county government working through 8 percent cuts.

Yes, the revenue is needed, but we call on the commission to be careful with such legislation.

In the act of adding additional charges to businesses, the commission runs the risk of worsening the climate for business development.

The commission runs the risk of placing a potentially heavy burden on businesses in the county already working hard to make ends meet.

We understand the need to generate operating revenue, but at what cost?
