Alabama State Troopers are continuing to investigate a one-car accident that resulted in the death of a 5-year-old child Wednesday afternoon.

According to reports, a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe was involved in an accident on Chilton County Road 146 near Minooka Park that injured one passenger and killed Shania Menoza-Meza.

Doris Teague with the Department of Public Safety said the accident report showed the vehicle lost control while driving and then struck an embankment. At that time, the child, who was not restrained, was “ejected from the driver side passenger window.”

Teague added that the report said a child restraint was in the car “but not used.”

According to Chilton County Coroner Randy Yeargan, the child had “signs of life” at the scene of the accident and was transported to Chilton Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.

Yeargan said the cause of death was “multiple blunt force trauma.”

The other occupant of the car and the child’s mother, Maria Meza-Arias Delourdes, was injured in the accident, but any information on her injuries or any treatment was not made available.
