Chilton County’s Commission began advertising a bill today that if passed will increase the transaction fee charged on computer generated business for certain county offices including the sheriff’s department.

The commission passed a resolution that asks the county’s representatives in the Alabama Legislature to introduce and help guide the local bill through the legislature this session.

The bill states: “In addition to all other fees and costs provided by law, a transaction fee of five dollars ($5) shall be paid to the Chilton County Tax Assessor and Tax Collector or their successor office, the Judge of Probate, and the sheriff when public business that is computer generated is transacted in the office of any of the county offices. The transaction fees shall be collected and deposited in the county general fund for appropriation for general county purposes.

“This act shall become effective immediately following its passage and approval by the governor of its otherwise becoming law.”

Currently a $2 fee is being charged for such transactions.
