Multi-car wreck injures 10

NORTH CHILTON – A wreck involving four vehicles at the intersection of Alabama Highway 155 and Chilton County Road 962 injured 10 people Monday afternoon and shut down the highway for a few hours.

Around 1 p.m., a 1992 Ford Escort, a 1995 Ford Mustang, a 1998 Nissan Sentra and a 2001 Toyota Corolla collided at the entrance of Countrywood subdivision on the two-lane highway that connects Jemison and Montevallo.

The Escort appeared to be traveling south while the Mustang, Sentra and Corolla were all traveling north. The Mustang had damage in the front and rear while the other vehicles all had damage in the front.

The Sentra and Corolla wound up in a ditch just north of the intersection. It was raining at the time of the accident.

The drivers were 27-year-old Charles Wilson of Montgomery, 21-year-old Curtis Collum of Montevallo, 18-year-old Constance Ray and an unnamed 17-year-old driver.

All drivers were transported to Baptist Shelby.

Six additional passengers also went to Baptist Shelby and Children’s Hospital.

West Chilton and Dry Valley fire departments responded to the scene along with the Chilton County Sheriff’s Department and state troopers.

The road was shut down for at least two hours while emergency responders treated the victims and cleared the damaged vehicles from the road.

State troopers are investigating the wreck.
